Anyone who ventures out into traffic needs to be wary of dangers that could arise. However, it’s not unreasonable to fail to expect harm to come one’s way when a person or a group of people are simply walking on a sidewalk. Unfortunately for three teens, this seemingly rare occurrence took place on Sunday when a motorist slammed into them after running off the road. In all, three people were seriously injured in this San Diego pedestrian accident.
According to police, this La Jolla pedestrian accident occurred on Sunday at approximately 6:30 p.m. on La Jolla Boulevard near Midway Street. The three teens injured were Miles Polger, Ian Brininstool and Alani Aguerre. They were walking down La Jolla Boulevard when a van driven by Ronald Troyer, 66, came off the road and crashed into the three pedestrians. Two other teens narrowly escaped being hit. After striking the pedestrians on the sidewalk, the van continued onward before ultimately coming to rest after crashing into the Cass Street Cafe & Bakery. This final collision injured two patrons, Jeffrey and Sharon Macelli.
San Diego Pedestrian Accident Statistics
We’d initially like to extend our hopes that those who were harmed are able to recover from their injuries. While the scene was certainly gruesome, we are thankful that no one was killed. Unfortunately, this San Diego pedestrian accident will only add to the statistics in this regard. Every year, approximately 70 people are killed and another 400 are injured in San Diego pedestrian accidents, and those numbers have held relatively steady for a number of years.
